Background

Shawn was born in Brunei and always had the aspiration of becoming an entrepreneur. In 2014, Shawn won a gold medal in an oratory competition at the school and the tile of the oration was “My ambition”. The subject of Shawn’s “ambition” was to be an entrepreneur. As a result, Shawn.Box was started in 2016 with the help of Shawn’s mum. Shawn.Box started as an online shop for selling greeting cards which were handpicked as and when Shawn travelled. As the demand increased, the business allowed the opportunity to progress to dealing with suppliers – and learn about distribution.

With all the social media surrounding our lives, we wanted to retain the beauty of the written words and the joy of receiving a hand-written card. This shows that a friend, partner or family member has taken the time to tell you how they feel and put words to paper. It is a much more personal and intimate form of greeting than a text message. Shawn.Box aims to uphold this pastime. In 2017, Shawn.Box successfully collaborated with a select number of cafes and florists in Brunei to sell the greeting cards as part of the business progression. Where else could be better to go, purchase and write a greeting card, other than a café, while at the same time enjoying their favourite beverage – or adding a handwritten message to a bouquet flowers is always a meaningful gift. In 2020, the business diversified to luxury stationery and lifestyle curated gift boxes. Each luxury collection is carefully sourced from around the world.
